Juneteenth - Freedom Day
Do you know the history behind Juneteenth - commemorating the abolition of slavery on June 19th?
Instructions: Juneteenth has been observed since the event it celebrates toward the end of the Civil War. It has seen its popularity grow and decline throughout the years, and has even been actively resisted in its early days.
More recently there has been a resurgence since the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s and the declaration of an official Texas state holiday in 1980.
